Emily Mortimer 'Playing a new mom was easy'

Emily Mortimer found herself in familiar territory playing a dizzy new mum in movie My Idiot Brother.
The 39-year-old Shutter Island actress says giving birth to her second child just weeks before filming the movie gave her a distinct advantage in playing a new parent who discovers her husband has been cheating on her.
“I had a real head start on getting to grips with this character because of having just had a baby myself,” says Emily.
“So much of what’s happening with my character is the fact she is just waking up from the immersion of being a new mother. That time is very, very confusing for a woman because you lose yourself completely because of what you have just been through physically.
“You go brain dead and can’t remember anything breastfeeding does that to you. Then you are suddenly expected to pick things up and carry on as normal. Luckily my husband is not having an affair like the guy in this movie, as far as I know! But I do know that feeling of having to cope with having just had a baby.”
